Course Title
Theoretical Foundations for Advanced Practice Nursing
Department(s)
Description
3 hours; 3 credits. This course explores the theoretical basis of advanced practice nursing through analysis of nursing's extant models and theories that contribute to nursing's unique body of knowledge. Emphasis is placed on nursing's metaparadigm concepts; person-environment-health-nursing. The dialectical process between theory, research, and practice is examined. The value of theory-based practice, including the sharing of knowledge with other disciplines, is stressed as foundational for Advanced Practice Nursing. Prerequisite: Matriculated or non-matriculated status in the graduate nursing program.
