Introduces students to the evolution of social welfare beginning with early human societies through to current day social welfare systems in the United States and globally. The course examines issues surrounding the development, implementation and evaluation of social welfare policies. Students are introduced to a framework for policy analysis and advocacy. The course is designed to help social workers learn to work effectively within the social welfare system and fulfill their ethical obligation to promote social and economic justice. Prerequisite: Admission to MSW program
